No lines of trees, streams or lakes here; the fairways are wide and open to the winds blowing in off the Tasman Sea, with natural swales and bounded by rough, bushland and around 70 bunkers.
Ross Watson designed a traditional championship links golf course, the only one in the area. Links are the oldest style of golf course, first developed in Scotland and located in coastal areas, traditionally on sandy soil with few water hazards and few if any trees, all reflecting the nature of the site's terrain.
Ross Watson tells us why he designed the Magenta Golf Course as he did. Please click on the picture to the left for a full description by Ross.
The layout and design of this course reminds you of many great courses of Britain and Ireland. It consists of two loops each of nine holes. The front nine starts off to have you heading south overlooking the Pacific Ocean and on the other side Tuggerah Lake. The first nine holes are beach holes with magnificent ocean views with the 9th green only meters away from the main clubhouse by electric cart. The back nine have you heading north along rainforest and national parks, finishing with a challenging and interesting eighteenth (Par 5) that brings you home to a magnificent clubhouse.
This course has a good practice facility, consisting of putting greens, a warm-up driving range and chipping green with bunkers.
