Welcome to your first edition of Around the Traps for 2010.
Our course has once again received praise and accolades from the national judging panels of Golf Australia with ranking in the top 25 best
courses in Australia. A ranking that we can all be proud of and what other courses aspire to. The Match Committee has continued to expand our
golfing activity schedule with the introduction of the "rookie" program and the very popular social events. Congratulations to both Colin and Marg
and their hard working team members.
With the challenges associated with the Global Financial Crisis we have already exceeded our full year new membership target with 30 new
members to the end of February 2010 against a full year budget target of 27. Total membership as of the end of February is now 509 compared
with full year budget target of 490.
On the financial horizon the club continues to improve its financial position with some key half year results for 2009 / 2010:
·
Total Revenue is 6% up on last year
·
Membership Revenue is 10% greater than last year
·
Our average green fee yield is 29% higher than last year
·
Total Expenses are 12% lower than last year
·
Outsourcing golf course maintenance has saved the club $185,000 compared to last year
·
Total Net loss has almost been halved from last year
·
We are on target to meet our full year budget forecast
Overall the half yearly results to 31 December 2009 were most encouraging with the total net loss (after depreciation) being $489,058 compared to
the same period last year of $965,549. Through new revenue initiatives and continued cost control our Club will continue to improve for the
advantage and enjoyment of all Members.
As you would have seen around the course the first stage of the new cart paths is complete and working well. The Golf Shop is going from
strength to strength under the direction of the new retail manager Michael Perry and there are a number of other initiatives that the Board are
reviewing.
The Board would like to thank the management team of Michael Rose, Martin West, Elysha Stephens and Chantelle Veness. The team has been
working well and their efforts are reflected in the turn around in the Club’s financial success.
To date we have managed to raise $4,242 towards a cover for the
playground at the North Entrance campus of Glenvale School for the
intellectually handicapped.
One of our members has offered to assist achieve an optimum design for
the cover, and the school has accepted this offer. A few members have also
expressed an interest in being volunteers at the school, and we hope to
initiate this within the next month or so. If anyone else is interested in
helping, please contact Marg Miles or Gay Saines.
In golf’s earliest days, the ball was made of feathers stuffed tightly into a leather bag and struck with wooden shafted clubs.

These days, the golf ball is a bit more high-tech with an Ionomeric Casing Layer, Urethane ElastomerTM Cover and 392 Dimple Design with
Staggered Wave Parting Line (specs of Titleist balls).
The Nine and Dine was the last fund-raising event we had for the Glenvale School and it proved to be a
very entertaining part of the night, with an auction item kindly donated by Chris, Don and Maggie May,
for a weekend away at their holiday destination “Middle Rock Holiday Resort.” John Tesoriero and Daryl
Smith certainly showed their competitive sides, vying for the ‘prize’. It was a fair contest with both sides
eventually making a wise decision to join forces and have a ‘happy holiday together’.
Peter Cribb also wanted to join in on the fun, and added an extra dimension to the ‘prize’ (and more
funds) by bidding to join them for lunch on the weekend.
All in all it was very successful for our Glenvale Special School fund-raising and even better when ‘the
lads’ generously donated the whole prize package back to the school to be given to a family who
desperately need a break. Thank you to the Mays for the prize and our generous supporters bidding and
then giving.
On behalf of the staff I would like to wish all members a Happy Easter.
The 2009 /10 year is now into the home stretch. It has certainly been a year of key improvements and

New membership continues to grow and a warm welcome to all new members for 2009 / 10 with 30
new members joining in this fiscal year to date. Importantly we have a membership base that remains
supportive and loyal to their Club. The Monday "workers" are a special group of dedicated members
and on behalf of all the Club and staff, thank you. Your contribution to the upkeep of our great course is
most appreciated.
Interest in corporate golf has been strong with a focus on high yield groups such as NSW Chemist
Association, Sydney Business Group, Toshiba, AMA Society and HSBC Bank to name a few. The
Members Invitationals have once again sold out and are pivotal to the success of new member growth.
With a few new faces we now have a great team of staff who are continually striving to keep delivering
and to keep improving our level of service. We still have goals to reach but we remain committed to

Keep the pressure in your hands soft and
constant throughout your stroke. Sensitivity is
obviously a huge part of putting.
If your hands are tight on the grip you are
diminishing your sensitivity.
