Nikki Garrett wins second title at European Ladies Tour
Magenta Shores Touring Professional, Nikki Garrett continued her winning streak at the Ladies European Tour by securing her second title at the Open De Espana Femenino Castellon in Spain on Sunday 13 May 2007.
Sponsored by Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club, Nikki won her second title with a final round two-under-par 70 defeating Englands Rebecca Hudson by one stroke.
Named the 2006 European Tour ‘Rookie of the Year’ for the best newcomer to the Ladies European Tour, Nikki has had a fantastic start to the tour after winning her first ever title last week at Golf del Sur.
Her recent wins have extended her lead on the New Star Money List with earnings of EUR84,472 from four events. In addition, Nikki is also receiving win bonuses from her major sponsor, Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club who are proud to support such a talented local golf professional.
Aiming to qualify for the Ladies US Open later this year, the 23 year-old from Magenta Shores looks set to continue her winning streak at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Open in Switzerland on 17-20 May 2007.
Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club is proud to have Nikki Garrett as its Touring Professional. Nikki turned professional in late 2005, after many years in the Amateur ranks; she was ranked No. l in 2005 Queensland Ladies Strokeplay Champion, and Riversdale Strokeplay Champion in 2005. In 2004 she placed 2nd New Zealand Strokeplay, 2nd NSW Strokeplay and 2nd St Rule Trophy 2004, and she was also a semi-finalist at the Australian Amateur Championship in 2004 and 2005.
In her first year out as a Professional, Nikki qualified for the 2006 Ladies European Tour. Even though she did not win a tournament in 2006, she made a huge impression in her first season as a professional, comfortably winning the Ryder Cup Wales Rookie of the Year Award for the best newcomer to the Ladies European Tour. She was also the highest-ranked player on the New Star Money List who had not won a tournament.
Nikki posted four top tens and a further four top 20 places from the 18 tournaments in which she entered. Her best results were T3 at the Wales Ladies Championship, and T3 at the SAS Masters in Norway a week later. She also posted T9 at the Catalonia Ladies Masters and T10 in the Dubai Ladies Masters, where she shot 66 in the final round. Top 20 finishes included T11 at the Finnish Ladies Masters, T13 at the BMW Ladies Italian Open, T17 at the KLM Ladies Open and T20 at the Vediorbis Open de France. In addition, Nikki finished fifth in the Ladies European Tour's 'The 18 Finest' competition, for which she earned EUR8,000, and ninth in the Volvo Cross Country Challenge for which she earned EUR3,000.
Nikki, who is 169cm tall with brown hair and brown eyes, recently appeared in the Tops Shots Golf Calendar which raised money for a number of good causes. Her hobbies include shopping, boxing, playing squash, going to the beach and music. She lives near Shelly Beach in New South Wales, and counts her parents and friends as her greatest influences.
